The United Methodist Women of First United Methodist Church of Clinton currently has two circles. Naomi Circle meets in the homes of members at 7 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month during the school year. Grace Circle meets in the homes of members at 9:30 a.m. on the second Tuesday of each month during the school year. The meeting locations are identified in our UMW yearly handbook, available in the church office.
We encourage you to become part of one of our circles. Our circle meetings are times for meeting people, studying the Bible, eating together, and enjoying an occasional party or dinner out. At these meetings we decide how we can provide help to those in need. Past projects include providing school supplies for orphans, arranging gift boxes for troops stationed overseas, supporting missionaries, among others.
Circles are a great way to join with other women for fellowship and missions to our community and world. It’s also a good way to eat delicious food and discover new recipes since the UMW is a treasury of the best cooking in Clinton!
As a member of the UMW, you can be part of the following rewarding ministries:
Each Tuesday morning, circle members gather in the Sanctuary Parlor of our church to create bouquets of flowers using the flower arrangements from the Sanctuary on Sunday mornings. They are assembled into small bouquets and delivered to the elderly, sick, and shut-ins of our congregation. This ministry is a way to stay connected with those who cannot physically make it to church on Sundays. Anyone is welcomed to join this ministry, on Tuesday mornings at 9:00.
This is a service the UMW provides for the family of a deceased member of our church or for a member’s immediate family. This ministry provides a meal before or after a funeral, is served at the church, and is designed to meet the desires and needs of the family in every possible way. The Martha ministry began in 2008 and has proven to be a truly special way to show our love to each other during difficult circumstances.
These are informal potlucks for any member of the church to enjoy. The UMW hostesses set up for the lunches, setting out the napkins and tableware. These luncheons take place in the FUMC gym at noon on the last Thursday of each month except November. Bring a dish and come join us!
At our “Brown Bag Lenten Lunches,” the circles furnish beverages, dessert, table decorations and lunch for the guest speaker. Guest speakers give information and inspiration on a wide variety of topics and are engaged by the FUMC pastoral staff. If you know someone who would be interested in speaking at these lunches, held during the Lenten season, please call the FUMC office. Lunches will be held each Tuesday in March, as well as the first Tuesday of April.
